Lymond and the Dragon...
May. 1st, 2005 11:08 pmThough I spent most of my time at the art gallery in Montreal looking at the "Eternal Egypt" exhibit, I did wander a little in the European Art rooms, and I saw a remarkable painting. Remarkable because it shows my mental image of Lymond, or close enough.
The painting is by Briton Riviere. It was painted in 1908 and it's called "St. George and the Dragon". Both St. George and the dragon are lying on the ground. The dragon is presumably dead. St. George, presumably exhausted from the fight but still alive, is lying on his back, his eyes closed. He's wearing light armour. He's slim, pale-haired, pale-skinned, and with a face remarkably... to my eyes... Lymondesque.
I wish I could find a reproduction of this painting.

St. George and the Dragon
