I saw President Bush today.

Well, I didn't exactly see him, I saw his car. He was in it, going by the window of my office, about ten feet from my nose. His was one of several dozen huge impressive-looking black cars, all with equally huge impressive police escorts. The traffic through the whole area was being rerouted and, in fact, this was all being set up ten minutes earlier as I came back from the bank. If I'd timed it a few minutes later, I don't imagine I could have come back from the bank - not without waiting for the President and his party to go wherever they were going.

I wonder how many people actually were demonstrating and protesting? Traffic all over downtown was a mess, but the transitway was a breeze. I went by bus to South Keys from the University of Ottawa in record time.

Just as well that controversial heads of state don't visit more often.

I saw President Bush today.

My sympathies. But, just think, you saw Finding Neverland and the incomparable Johnny Depp, so that cancels out any tinted-glass glimpse of *shudder* President Sockpuppet.

LOL. Johnny Depp would cancel out any horror, I agree.

Now I have to figure out how to walk to work - all my regular routes are barricaded in case the President wants to take them. Too bad I can't use it for an excuse to stay home.

Couldn't you just say that the near-glimpse of President Frat-boy made you so ill that you've taken to your bed? I think most Canadians would understand that.

Oh, they would understand, no problem! But I work in theatre. It's a mind-set. The show must go on. Being on your deathbed is no excuse.

I got here, with less trouble from Presidential barricades than I expected, but with more trouble from tring to walk in the heavy snow - slip-sliding away. It very, aerobic.

I had to go to Carlingwood after work; I left there at 5:30 on the bus, got home at 7:00. Bus traffic through downtown was INSANE!!!

You-Know-Who didn't go by my office, but about a thousand protesters did. Quite a sight to see. We quite liked the one with a sign that said, simply, BUCK FUSH :-)

Thank goodness I didn't have to take a bus through downtown! It looked as if the traffic wasn't moving at all. When I had to cross at the Rideau and King Edward corner (about ten minutes before Bush came by), the cops were rerouting traffic and shouting at the cars to "Move! Move! Move!" but there were about forty pedestrians crossing right in front of the cars the cop was telling to move, and I'm very happy to say they disobeyed the cop and didn't move at all....

Ah - you saw the protesters, I didn't. I saw the object of their protest. I think you got the better deal, I'd have liked to have seen more of the signs and T-shirts.
