Another Fannish Five...
Oct. 17th, 2004 11:46 pmStill hopelessly behind, I'll answer the Fannish Five questions from Oct. 1:
Which five characters would you most like to have dinner with?
From books: Francis Crawford of Lymond from the Dorothy Dunnett novels
From movies: Rick from Casablanca
From TV shows: (1) Lex Luthor (2) Methos
From history: Julius Caesar (I might give another answer at another time, but right now I'm in Caesar-loving mode...)
And... can I have another crack of it, to answer with all-female characters? Of course I can!
From books: Kate Somerville from the Dorothy Dunnett novels
From movies: Hana from The English Patient
From TV shows: (1) Inara from Firefly (2) Zoe from Firefly
From history: Saint Bathildis

Date: 2004-10-18 10:49 am (UTC)From book: Francis Crawford (big surprise), or Aragorn as the #2 choice.
From movies: Mmm... Geoffrey or Phillip, from The Lion in Winter. Or Jareth the Goblin King from "Labyrinth". And find out where he gets his hair done, man.
From TV shows: Probably Book, from Firefly. Seems like he would be a nice intellectual companion.
From history: Oh, dude. So many cool people, so little time. Probably de Callieres or Machiavelli. Or, y'know, Rasputin, although he probably isn't condusive to the idea of dinner at a friend's house any more. Heh.
The girls:
From books:...Philippa Somerville from DD. Or Marthe. Or Eowyn. Or Hermione. Or all four.
From movies: Beatrix, from Kill Bill. She's gotta have some great stories to tell.
From TV shows: Zoe from Firefly. Just... dude. How can you not love her?
From history: Eleanor of Aquitaine, without a doubt, or if she was busy, Elizabeth I.

Aragorn was also my second book choice - who else? And Aral Vorkosigan #3.
I would have said someone from The Lion in Winter, but couldn't decide between Henry, Philip, Geoffrey and William Marshal.
Came close to saying Mal Reynolds. As for Book - I wonder if I could persuade him to tell me his secrets, hmm?
Who is de Callieres? Machiavelli is a good choice. I'd want to make sure Rasputin didn't poison the soup.
Philippa: yes, she'd be my second choice. Your four would be good. Add Cordelia Naismith as a possibility. I don't know Beatrix. Zoe is... yeah, dude. Zoe. There's no one like Zoe. I can't imagine not loving her.
Eleanor of Aquitaine was actually my first choice of historical women, but I switched to Saint Bathildis just to be obscure and different. Didn't want to make it seem I was in a Plantagenet-inspired rut. My next choice would probably be that female Greek sea-captain who fought the Persian navy during the Greco-Persian wars. Herodotus talks about her. I can't talk about her, I just forgot her name....
