This time, it's Martha.

Motherhood

The child slept, eyelashes dark on his creamy cheek.

Martha bent and kissed him gently. He was her miracle. She wished for a child, and now she had one, the most perfect boy imaginable.

She had been his mother for a day now. She had no fears that he would be taken from her, because destiny had brought him to her, the son she had always dreamed of.

He came to her in a streamlined ship, crashing down to earth. She and Jonathan had not discussed their theories, or the ways he was odd.

She might have still claimed the baby was normal, until he lifted the table with one hand. Until he ran, laughing, faster than any human child could.

He was her beloved alien.

"It's all right, Clark," she whispered, soothing a lock of hair from his forehead. "I'll keep you safe."
