I spent a lot of time on buses today, which gave me time to read. Still reading Murder on the Appian Way. Still enjoying it. Going around with visions of late Republican Rome in my head.

The most amazing thing about today was how hot it was. It's almost the end of September. It isn't supposed to be hot. Not here.

Went to the OSFS executive meeting; nothing spectacular about it. Got home and wrote a Smallville dodecal called "The Keep" which you can find here.

That book sounds erally, really familiar. Like, REALLY. Who wrote it, perchance, and is it any good? Buses are more fun than a barrel of monkeys. I may be crazy but I love public transportation. And it's ridiculously hot here too....

Murder on the Appian Way is by Steven Saylor, one of the books about Gordianus the Finder. It takes us through the riots following the death of Publius Clodius and the part I'm reading now - about halfway through the book - is starting to focus on Mark Antony. I'm hoping that if Mark Antony is getting a higher profile, then Julius Caesar can't be far behind!

Though I haven't a clue yet as to who killed Clodius.

And yes, the book is very good. Some of the best historical fiction I've read in ages. I feel as if I was hanging around the Forum waiting for the latest news about the Senate.

There is an internet/American politics pun in there somewhere, but I am far too tired to dig it out right now. Perhaps I could persuade you just to take at as read that I made some sort of clever wordplay?

Anyway, it sounds really good, and if you recommend it (which it sounds like you do), I shall be forced to put it on my Amazon.com wish list (it's like having a "to-read" list only better, because it's harder to lose). Admittedly mine is 14 pages long right now, so it may be some time, but....

Yes, of course, very witty wordplay, quite brilliant. (Though I am hardly in a position to appreciate it, being woefully ignorant of U.S. politics!)

Yes, I recommend the novel heartily. So far all the Saylor novels I've read (this is the fifth) have been excellent.
