What a great evening of television.

First, the new Smallville, "Crusade". I wonder why it was called that.... Well, because of the Kryptonian word, of course. But why was the Kryptonian word on the Kent lawn? Is Clark some sort of Crusade?

- Lionel, Lionel, Lionel - he just keeps getting better and better. Loved him in his cage with his piles of old books. What are you researching, Lionel?

- Lois Lane: I was prepared to dislike her because I've been unenthusiastic about all other versions of Lois - some being more palatable than others, but I took against the character back around 1960 and it takes a lot to overcome that. Okay, looks as if I've overcome. This Lois has personality.

- In several scenes, Lois Lane made me think of the Lana Lang of the Superboy comics. Especially when she wore a pony tail; but the attitude and style seemed the same. How interesting to see a tall woman on the show.

- The Margo Kidder sequence was amazing. They broke my heart and made me laugh at the same time.

- Loved it when Clark looked into Chloe's casket. They almost had me conned into actually believing she might be dead....

- Enough with the red blankets, though I liked the "naked Clark" theme. I guess the guy at the desk in the hospital hadn't been working there long - if he had, Clark Kent would have been a long-familiar face.

- Martha is Martha again. After a season of disappearing into the woodwork, she had a strong and steadfast role. Wonderful!

- How many 'best friends" does Clark have? Pete, Lex, Chloe....

- I like Black Kryptonite, that blows off men's clothes. Even better: Lex in the plane with his shirt off. They're being way too good to me.

- I like it that Lana has a new boyfriend. And she's messing with medieval tombs... Without being suddenly someone I like, she is more interesting than she has been in ages.

- Nice Kent family group hug.

- Why does Kal-El have almost no personality? For years I've though that Clark Kent was one aspect of the character; Superman another; but that the 'real man' is Kal-El, who amalgamates both and is the real, whole man. They've taken an entirely different approach here.

- I couldn't believe home much I loved this episode, how interesting and well-crafted it was. Dare I hope 4th season will keep up the quality?

Before watching "Crusade" we watched most of "Covenant" again. Some good things there - I like that one too, and it got me nicely warmed up and into the mood for Smallville. The Requiem sequence was as gripping as the first and second and third times I watched it.... I love the way John Glover can take a scene of a man getting his hair cut and make it the climactic moment of an adventure show.

After Smallville we saw a couple of minutes of The Mountain and we were bored before it even started. So we watched Lost, and we were riveted all the way. [livejournal.com profile] maaboroshi described it as "a cross between Survivor and Twin Peaks". Yeah. Very intriguing, and a fascinating situation. I hope to watch it next week.

It seems unfair that when there are only two shows I want to watch (so far) this season, they put them on at the same time. How did they know?

Woo, hoo! I hoped for this. So, we can love Lois together?

I know, I know. We'll see.

Loved it when Clark looked into Chloe's casket

In the event they don't completely bypass the rest of the scene, I can hear next week's opening dialogue:

"Lois! Chloe's not dead."

"What do you mean, not dead? How do you know?"

"It doesn't matter."

[pick one]
a. "I just know
b. "We just have to find her."
c. "Never mind."

It looks that way, though of course we can only take it episode by episode. But so far, yes! the prognosis for the future looks good. Yes, she just might be good enough for Clark - so at last Lex has a rival worthy of him.

As for next week's opening dialogue....

"Lois! Chloe's not dead."

"How do you know?"

a. "It's a hunch."
b. "Uh...."
c. "This is Smallville - nothing is ever that simple!"
