If you don't have the time to read, you don't have the time or the tools to write.

Me too! It's like - and excuse to read. A reason to read. And from someone who should know!

I never need an excuse or reason to read. It's just something I do. Though, I find it odd that so many writers -- especially fan fiction writers, don't read.

Yes. There can be all sorts of reasons for people not to read - commitment of time to other things, like families for example - but I couldn't stay away from books. I get despressed if I go too long without reading. Too much is missing from my life if I don't read.

Actually, when I get depressed, I have several "comfort" books, that work well to help me feel better.

That's painfully perfect for what I'm going through right now.

I don't like the sound of that 'painful' part. I hope things sort themselves out so you can read more soon.

Can't read fic, can't read meta, can barely read what people are *saying*. Thought several times about defriending like 20 people - out of a flist of what, 40? - just because they *talk* and I can't read.

Do you think this will pass soon? What's the problem?

...Oops there I am, talking again.

Just mega giant ADD. Or the depression. Or maybe [livejournal.com profile] theatrical_muse although I doubt it.

[livejournal.com profile] ceruleancat might have a theory.

When I was depressed I couldn't read at all. Couldn't concentrate on more than a sentence at a time, let alone a paragraph. It was horrible - well, of course it was, depression is horrible by definition. Since all my life I had comforted myself with books when I was feeling down, it was as if my lifelong coping mechanism had abandoned me. One of the ways I knew I was finally getting better was that I was able to read again.

The only good thing about it was that it didn't last forever.

I don't want to step out of fandom in general, but sometimes I feel like I need clean space.
