..And a busy one. The General Manager was back at work and she was busy so it was a hectic day in the office - especially since I'm taking tomorrow and Monday off to go to Boston.

Yes, Boston.

But what really made the day good was not the anticipation, but the almost complete freedom from pain. I was talking to my firend Sheila last night and she suggested a pain-killer that actually works! I am thrilled. I think - and she thinks - that my problem is endometriosis; we'll see if the doctors agree.

Lately I've been meditating on the way home from work, sitting by the canal or in parks between work and home - anywhere I can gaze at trees. Today, I meditated at lunchtime in the theatre, in the green room. It worked nicely too. And I had time to read Astonishing X-Men #4 by Joss Whedon - yes, it's up to $4 already. And as good as ever, with a few more magnificent surprises. Love the way he writes Kitty Pryde and Emma Frost.

Boston. Tomorrow. I can hardly wait.

Oh god, I hope so much that you don't have endometriosis - that's what I have, and it's horrible - but I'm so glad that Sheila's suggested painkiller worked, and I can point you at a really good endo site if you like and tell you what's worked for me.

You here in Boston. I can't wait to see you. I'll be out in Marblehead tomorrow afternoon with Greg to consult on the guitar he's having made, but the machine will be on, and I'll call back if you call. You, here! Whee!

I already know about the 'horrible' part! I hope you don't mind if I ask you questions about it.

I can't wait either - and only a day of driving before I get there! I'm stocking up on stuff to read, though I hope I can sleep in the car. I don't know how long it will take but I do recall that the last time I went to Boston by car the trip seemed endless - ! But then, getting there in the end is the whole point. See you soon - isn't that fun to say?

The only time I've ever been to the US was to visit Boston (it was a school exchange type of thing) and a short trip to NYC. My memories always fade so easily but I clearly remember the wonderful architecture of the city and thinking that it was so ... European. It left quite an impression on me and even now I still think that if I were ever to move somewhere else it would either have to be England or the East Coast.

Yes, isn't Boston interesting? New York is interesting too, but in a different way. I don't know which I prefer... I have good memories of previous trips to Boston, which has mostly been for conventions - the first SF World Con I ever went to (but I'm missing it this year - by five days!) and a wondeful Dunnett Gathering. One good memory is of seeing an amazing Imax show at the museum - called "Chronos" - it was all of history shown in pictures, without words.

Thank you! I'll tell you about it when I get back. (How busy are you? Maybe we could do a LOTR evening....)

Well, I chose the worst possible week to go on vacation to Oregon, didn't I?

No chance you're staying longer than a week?

Sadly, I stayed only two days. It wasn't nearly enough! I want to go back!
