Civic holiday...
Aug. 2nd, 2004 11:36 pmIt was a good day, the way holidays ought to be. I hadn't much in the way of plans - and that turned out to be just the thing. The day was relaxing. What a concept.
I had planned to do useful things - like scrubbing the kitchen - or virtuous things, like yoga and meditation. Nope. The dishes are still soaking in the sink. Instead I catalogued a huge pile of comics, and read some. I watched two good TV shows: an episode of The Professionals, "Where the Jungle Ends", a episode I know every word of, but it was a treat to watch the show on DVD and hear every word so clearly - see every detail of the picture. In the morning I watched an episode of Brimstone, wishing as always that John Glover was in every scene.
I scanned some comic book pages and made some icons. Fun. If I follow my usual pattern, I'll never use them, but I'm glad to have them anyway.
Met Lyn at Billings Bridge for coffee - well, actually, for iced tea. We talked about comics, and did some lending and borrowing. On the way home I got a hot dog at Harvey's and found a quiet spot by the river where I could sit and eat it. Me and a dozen ducks, two swans, a squirrel and a bullfrog. It was idyllic - except that I could still hear the traffic even if I couldn't see it, and the wildlife included (inevitably) a share of mosquitoes.
Read two particularly good comics: the latest Daredevil, which was as wonderful as always with Bendis writing - I love his writing on most things, but on Daredevil he really excels. And Cable and Deadpool, which really does have a startling development - wow, that took me by surprise. Deadpool has always been known for his sense of humour and his extreme ugliness. Now he has been reborn and looks great. What effect will this have on the guy? I look forward to finding out. At least Nicieza is writing this with a good sense of humour, dialogue and charaterization - though so far the plot has been dumb.
Tomorrow I can worry about the things I meant to do today.
