New Eden...
Jul. 11th, 2004 11:03 pmI saw four movies this weekend. Four! And I want to talk about them but my brain seems to have fizzled into pablum and I can hardly put one word in front of another.
I also read a magnificent comic. A trade paperback, actually - I hadn't seen it in the stores, but borrowed it from a friend. It's called Kane - Greetings from New Eden. It's a story about an American cop named Kane who comes back to the force after suspension for shooting his partner. He is given another partner and the comic covers various cases. There's a review of it here: Anthony Johnston reviews "Kane: Greetings from New Eden".
I just loved it, beginning to end. A lot remains unexplained, especially regarding Kane and his past. Just because I enjoyed it so much I scanned two pages, so if you want to see them, here's page 28 and here's page 29.

Date: 2004-07-11 10:41 pm (UTC)The art is wonderful. Reminds me of the good old days with things like Love & Rockets, and the early independents who were all doing such lovely and daring stuff. Great time to be a comics fan! ...except that runs were small, prices were high, and distribution was terribly spotty. But, hey!

Date: 2004-07-12 03:52 am (UTC)Thanks for pointing out that the link was wrong - I fixed it, so you can see what Kane says now. I really like that page!
Yes, it does have a bit of the Love and Rockets feel. And reminds me of both Frank Miller and Hugo Pratt, not artists I've generally thought of in the same breath before. And see, I can remember Hugo Pratt's name now.
