Flight

Kara told Clark he could fly, so he did. Smallville lay below him: the farm, the cornfields, and over there.... Luthor Manor.

He had to look.

Lex lay dying. Beside him in an instant, Clark held Lex, tasting bitter strychnine on his lips as he knelt among broken glass and tried to beathe life into unresponsive lungs.

"The friendship is over," he'd said. Is that what brought Lex to this? Or was it the vengeance of his father? Helen's greed? Dominic's spite?

It was an eery replay of their first meeting, when Lex had flown, and discovered hope. Today, Clark had flown, after destroying all Lex's hopes.

Clark cradled him. "Please live, Lex. I failed you. I'm sorry. I'll never fail you again." His lips lingered on Lex's. "I love you."

Lex opened his eyes, hope rekindled as met Clark's frevent gaze. He smiled.
