This was in answer to the challenge:
Dodecal #10 - An unexpected catastrophe mars Lex's wedding preparations. What is it? Describe and enjoy doing it. (144 words).
I made it wishful thinking.
* * *
Discovery
Some dreams end abruptly.
Helen's dream ended when she opened the vestibule door moments before her wedding, and saw the groom kissing his best man.
Lex saw her. Clark did not. Lex savored the long kiss.
Clark said, "Be happy with her. I really want you to be happy."
The words made her gasp as if a blow had fallen. Clark said, "Helen!" and blushed scarlet.
Lex's eyes were dark, knowing. Not cruel. "Isn't it bad luck for the groom to see the bride before the ceremony? You look stunning, Helen."
He held out his hand to her as if nothing was wrong. She said to Clark, "He loves you more."
"I always did," said Lex. "I told you so long ago." He put his hand lightly on Clark's arm.
Dream shattered, Helen turned away. "Clark - be happy with him."
"I will," whispered Clark.

Date: 2003-05-16 01:48 pm (UTC)Clark walked into Lex's office and found Lex with a pink letter in his hands and strange look on his face.
"Lex? What's up?"
"The strangest thing," said Lex.
Clark worried. Another attempted takeover of LexCorp by Lionel? Or worse, a successful takeover of LexCorp by Lionel? Blackmail? Industrial espionage? A paternity suit?
Lex put his head down on the desk. His shoulders shook. Clark put a hand in comfort on his back. "Lex? What is it?"
Lex sat up, wiping his eyes. "The funniest thing you ever heard." He had to stop talking, he was laughing so hard. "Helen left me... for...." He waved the pink letter over his head.
Clark plucked it out of his fingers and read:
Lex my dear,
Good-bye. I have had enough of Luthor politics and Luthor schemes and your obsession with that farmboy. I have found a man who truly loves me and whom I love in return. I am marrying Pete Ross.
Sincerely,
Helen
"Oh," said Clark.
"Yes," said Lex. Sitting up, he was in a good position to put his arms around Clark's waist and rest his head against his chest. Clark in turn ran warm fingers over Lex's scalp, caressing the softness behind his ears. "D'you think I can bear to live without her?"
"There might be compensations."
"There might." Lex turned his head to kiss the hand that touched it. "Shall we explore a few?"
