A year ago we got an episode called Accelerate, in which Lana Lang was menaced by a clone of her childhood friend.

Forsaken gave me a strong sense of deja vu. I liked the Lana plot less, the Luthor plot more.

In Accelerate I thought Emily was creepy and scary and that she was one of the better supervillains. In Forsaken she was more of a copycat Tina, the creepy girl who tries to look like Lana and wants to be with Lana. I had the feeling that only Lana should get to wear pink in this show....

I have been developing various theories about the role of Lana Lang in the long-term story. I think they are being borne out.

I thought the subplot of Clark wanting to tell Lana his secret was lame; we knew he wasn't going to; it looked forced. Of course, I'm prejudiced. I think if he should tell anyone, it should be Lex. Of course, Lex already knows. But that's beside the point. He should tell him anyway, as he doesn't know Lex knows.

Why does Lana keep her long-dead mother's bracelet in her locker at school? Lana is strange. (Oh, you noticed.)

The superb and most wonderful scenes were between Lex and Lionel. I loved it when Lionel ripped Lex's shirt of - too bad it wasn't Clark this time, but I like it that they're continuing the tradition. I loved the scene at the end, where Lex was being friendly to Pete Ross. And Pete at least didn't hit him, which for Pete with Lex, is friendly enough.

I applaud the loss of Pete to the show.

I continue to absolutely love the use of Chloe, especially Chloe's alliance with Lex against Lionel. How has it happened that the most interesting plots on this show didn't even involve Clark?

I like the way Jonathan and Martha are letting Clark make up his own mind more, on important issues.

I loved the use of architecture and interior design and colour in this episode - as in all episodes, but it was better than ever here. The jewel-tones of Luthor Manor, but the tower all in shadow. The blue-tones of Lionel's glassy office. The interesting use of glass cages both literally and metaphorically. Various metaphors of betrayal and loyalty. I wonder what the cows are a metaphor for....

Maybe we should have steak next week to celebrate the season's ending?

It's that lazy Clark, always wandering off to pursue supervillains or hang out with Lex or pine over Lana, doesn't get his chores done.
Cows don't milk themselves, you know.

I didn't care about the Lana stuff at all. How many times do we need to be told that she's worthy of being imitated, stalked, and kidnapped? I almost laugh now whenever she's knocked out and taken away. I hope the next time it's to Paris.

Mwhaha, I'm evil.

If both Lana and Pete leave for good, I'm gonna be bouncing.

Well - I would laugh, except I'm still stuck watching the plot.

I would be for sure! And we're halfway there. Now, I think Lana might actually go to Paris... and come back next season [groan]... we shall see. My belief is that at some point she will be killed off, probably midway or late through 5th season.

You really think they'll kill her off? That could be fun. They are definitely going to have to start bringing in some new characters, hopefully one we'd recognize.

Did Perry White show up in an episode? I heard someone mention this and I had no recollection. Maybe they were thinking in the future?

Yes, I really do, and I could give you a list of reasons. Or you could call it a hunch. In the traditional comic book, it the death of the Kents gave Superman incentive to want to save the world. I think that in Smallville it will be the death of Lana Lang that inspires Clark to become Superman.

Perry White was definitely in an episode this season - he was wonderful. It was called (drum roll please) "Perry". He was a drunken washed-up journalist trying to get a sensationalist exposé on Clark. Do you remember now? Think of the flying tractor. Or maybe you missed that one.

Yes, I would love to see more of him.

Gosh, I think I might've missed that one! Rats. Hmmm. What else was going on in the episode? Anything of notability?

That is true, something needs to propel Clark's superhero turn. You pretty sure they will not off his parents?

There are some quite funny scenes in "Perry" where Lex is trying to get him out of the town. And Chloe, starstruck because, fallen though he is, Perry is her Pulitzer-prize-winning hero.

No, I'm not sure the Kents won't die, but I don't think they will. I do think we'll have a few more serious worries about their welfare. Lana's the only one I'm sure is doomed.

LOL, I wondered about that, too.

So true about Clark being of minimal interest in this ep. The Lionel-Lex stuff seemed even better than usual, if that's possible.

The "easy" explanation is that Lana wore the bracelet one day, took it off, put it in her locker, and forgot it there. But wouldn't you think that someone who is moving to Paris would clean out her high school locker before moving away? Since it is Lana we're talking about, I can't help thinking of more arcane reasons of superstitious or sentimental need - she may not hang out in the graveyard now, but this is her substitute, imbuing her locker with her mother's presence.

At least the locker is proof of sorts that Lana does, in fact, attend school. There were times I wondered about that.

The Lionel-Lex stuff seemed even better than usual, if that's possible.

Yes. It just keeps escalating in its wonderfulness and I love every minute of it.
