A good Sunday...
May. 9th, 2004 11:41 pmA long day, a busy day, a quite wonderful day.
First, I headed out at 6.30 a.m. and walked from the Glebe to South Keys. I'm not sure how many miles it is - it took me a little over an hour each way. I was tickled. I thought it would take twice that time. Now I know! It was a beautiful sunny cool day, just right for that kind of walking.
I read a chapter or two of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban to Marcelle and
Beulah came over and we watched The Tales of Hoffmann. I'd been listening to the music a few weeks ago and now know it pretty well - but hadn't read a detailed synopsis of the story, and only understood about one third of the sung French. Seeing it as a film made the story clear - and hearing it sung in English was a real shock! I loved the staging, the costuming, the strangeness of it - and many scenes reminded me of the Halloween masquerade in Van Helsing yesterday - my latest reference, I guess, for shows with costumes, capes, masks and make-up.
After that we watched Love Actually, which I loved - my favourite theme was the Liam Neeson plot, but Alan Rickman was great, and Keira Knightly, and the wonderful story about Bill Nighy, and.... heck, I just totally enjoyed the whole thing, even Colin Firth, and I never thought that was something I would ever say.
