Saturday....
Mar. 6th, 2004 11:15 pmA funny day today. It seems only a few minutes ago that I had a long empty Saturday all spread out before me, and I've been busy all day, and now it's gone, and did I do what I meant to?
Some of it. Groceries, websites, odds and ends. Not nearly as much as I'd hoped. I felt... unfocussed. I ran into my friend Doreen on Bank St; that was fun. We used to see a lot of each other, now we're lucky if we meet once a year. And when we do meet, it's as if we're picking up the conversation as if we left off ten minutes ago. She's another friend who has lasted a long time. Her aunt was my mother's best friend from before I was born.
Feeling a little deprived of slash, I read the latest on smallville.slashdom.com and enjoyed it very much: Networking by Shrift. I almost skipped it because it's a crossover with Sports Night, a show I barely know. That didn't matter in the least. It was witty, sexy, and right on target with characterization and nuance. So I'm feeling like a happy fan.
I watched a few first season episodes of Smallville too - Craving and Jitters. Craving was the first episode I ever saw, and the main plot is dreadful - but I tend to forget how intriguing Lex is in that one, how much screen time he gets, how that episode caught my attention despite the absurd story about the fat-sucking girl. "Caught my attention" - hah. That's a euphemism for "made me fall in love with the show". And with Lex, and Clark, and the whole Smallville thing. (But not Pete Ross or Lana Lang.)
I also wrote to the Mayor and my City Councillor to protest proposed budget cuts to the Ottawa Public Library. If they shut my favourite branch down - which is a distinct possibility - I will be devastated. I'm in there daily, or close to; a beautiful old building only a five minute walk from work. The Rideau branch library is one of the treasures of my life.
