Dec. 31st, 2011

I love making New Year's Resolutions. I talked about this last year. I look forward to it with the excitement of a child at Christmas. I think about it through most of December. For me, New Year's Resolutions are sheer fun.

My resolutions for 2012:

    Do it.
    Do it now.
    Do it right.
    Do it joyously.

The word of the year is Joie, and I have a joystone to prove it:

It was a Christmas present from Ysolde, and it sets the tone of my year.

I am going to declare my period of decluttering over. It isn't that I don't have a lot of stuff; but I've pared it down to mostly stuff I love. I know I have too many books, which really just means my apartment is too small for any more bookcases, because how could anyone ever have too many books?

It isn't that I can start getting a whole bunch of things and recluttering the place again. I should take it easy: something comes in, something goes out.

There are some people who think my place is still cluttered. Other people think it isn't cluttered at all. It's all in the perspective.

What is means is, I'm now comfortable with my space.

While driving across Eastern Ontario tonight, somewhere near Spencerville, we saw a display of Northern Lights. It was amazing, unnatural, beautiful, dramatic. We were listening to a version of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah and it was as if the sky was dancing with light. Surreal.

What a strange and appealing event to signal the end of one year and the beginning of the next.
