Walking...

Two nice things today.

The first was that after picking up my weekly comics at the Silver Snail (a sizable pile), I had half an hour to kill before meeting [personal profile] commodorified, and I wondered whether I could walk to the Main Branch library to return my books and still be at the Bridgehead at Gilmour and Bank in time. I decided to give it a try.

I did it, give or take a couple of minutes.

The great thing was, it was snowing, and not really easy walking - the ground was cold, slippery, greasy with sand and ice, and I found myself grumbling internally about it being difficult walking, but I was continuing at a fair clip - and then realized I wasn't scared. My fear of falling has eased.

Not, you understand, that I have any intent of taking chances.

And then at home I found myself with half an hour to spare before making supper, and I decided I wanted to spent it on the treadmill. Woo. I think this means I'm actually starting to like exercise. Bring it on!

While on the treadmill, with a new compilation of music and miscellanea on my Blackberry, oneo f the random tracks was the very beginning of Terry Pratchett's Making Money. It was lovely. Then the thing played music again, but the snippet was enough to hook me. I think I know what I'll be listening to on the treadmill for the next while.

As good as many of Terry Pratchett's books are, I think I like them even better when read aloud. And that's a rare thing.

I saw The King's Speech this evening. Best movie I've seen in years. I cried through most of it - when I wasn't laughing. What a surprise and a treat so see Anthony Andrews as Baldwin - I was proud to recognize him! - and Guy Pearce as David. Yet every single actor was so very much in character that they were difficult to recognize as anything but the role they were playing.

Yeah, I loved it.

Afterwards, the last bit of Doctor Who episode 2x13, "Doomsday", was on, and I watched it again because I love it so much. Such a heart-breaker! I wish they'd never brought Rose back. That was such a fitting ending, compared to the eventual outcome.
