Today:

  1. Bought comics. They got the delivery of comics at the Silver Snail yesterday, because the delivery date has changed, so they opened at nine this morning. I arrived around ten and ther was practically no one there - just Kin and Dave, who work there.
  2. Catalogued and filed more comics.
  3. Had a wonderful dinner at Mystica with Vince, who brought free-range organic lamb with him from BC, and gave it to the chef there to make moussaka with - because I had said in the apa that their moussaka was good, but I wished it had been made with lamb, not beef. And I didn't know any Greek restaurant in the city which makes it with lamb now. Turns out Vince knows the owner of the place from way back... and they were happy to make moussaka with lamb for me.
  4. And it was delicious. So was the grilled squid appetizer. Much more tender and delicate than the usual breaded and fried calimari.
  5. But the tea was terrible. Obviously they put more effort into coffee.
  6. Had a good talk with Vince about Apaplexy, books, life, and everything.

I don't usually like ads, but I did love this one. Especially since I just wrote a piece for Apaplexy about Mayan glyphs.

I went this evening to a meeting of the Ottawa Tarot Club. An interesting, intelligent bunch - as I thought they would be. They make it a point to be welcoming of new members, and friendly, and I think more clubs should follow their example. We discussed various aspects of the cards, and I saw the Gummy Bear Tarot Deck and the Shadowscapes deck, both of which I would love to own. Ahh, so many wonderful tarot decks out there, and more all the time. They talked about the value of making one's own deck, which is something I have wanted to do.

We met in a private room in a pub, and I spent the evening sitting with a huge poster photo of Johnny Depp facing me. That was not unpleasant.

We talked about:

  • The symbols of the Arthurian Tarot
  • Subjectivity and objectivity in readings - cards you particularly like and cards that are vexing
  • The value and mechanism of Tarot
  • Reversals - Mary Greer vs. Fred Gettings
  • The significance of the two and three of wands
  • Coins and pentacles
  • the notion of "good" and "bad" cards

I walked home, afterwards. More pleasant than taking the bus, and it probably took about the same time.
