Woke this morning to noisy work on wallpaper in the corridor outside. With machines. What's with that?

Went to Physio - again, Leslie was encouraging, but emphasized strongly how much work I must do to get my arm flexible again. She said muscles can be recovered anytime, but flexibility can only be recovered now.

Right.

But Leslie also commended me on the way I was walking with my left arm at my side - not straight, but held more naturally than before. When I got out of the car on arrival at the hospital, I absent-mindedly picked up my purse in my left hand. It didn't hurt. I didn't even drop it. I am mighty. (Well, comparatively.)

I have discovered two things that inspire strangers to make conversation. One is a visible injury - amazing how many people recently have told me about bones they have broken, or that their fiends and relatives have broken. Including the cute guy working at the gas station yesterday, who was also funny and smart, and told us all about his once-broken shoulder that never did heal right. For reasons I can't articulate, he reminded me of Dean Winchester.

The other thing that people like to comment on is my eReader. I was using it in the hospital today - whenever I use it to read in public, I get asked about it: how does it work? what kind is it? how does it compare to paper books? - and so on. They aren't that rare, but they're still a novelty.

I was reading Lois McMaster Bujold's new Miles Vorkosigan novel, Cryoburn. With joy.

The Paratranspo driver drove me all the way to George Street in lowertown before taking me home, because it turns out that the guy in a wheelchair who has physio the same time as I do lives at the Salvation Army hostel there. I enjoyed the ride, because I don't get downtown much these days. Had a chance to look around a little. Things change. New condos, for instance.

Then I walked to Shopper's Drug Mart (about 1 km away from home) to buy bus tickets and an SDHC card for my camera. I wanted to take a walk in the sunshine.

Made quiche again for supper - I'm a one-trick pony these days, but thrilled to be able to do it. Also Caesar salad. [personal profile] fairestcat, [personal profile] commodorified, [personal profile] random, [personal profile] pecunium, and [livejournal.com profile] raynedaze brought loads of fruit, frest tomatoes and cucumber, cheese and crackers, and a delightful feast was had by all. We watched White Collar and a couple of magnificent Doctor Who fanvids that [personal profile] fairestcat brought over.

fajrdrako: ([Lymond])

The Dunnett fan lists have been full lately of discussion about the Dunnett novels coming out as ebooks, especially on Kindle. Someone said the books were available in ePub format from Barnes & Noble, and so they were - for U.S. residents only.

So I was bummed.

But I went to the Indigo-Chapters site, and discovered that they have the Lymond novels for their Kodo readers, so I was able to buy them - at a price slightly cheaper than Barnes & Noble were asking. So I bought The Game of Kings. And there it was, in all its glory, on my computer and my eReader - so exciting! I then bought all the other Lymond books except The Disorderly Knights, which wasn't listed. Why not? I set them e-mail. No reply yet.

I'll be able to take them to France. It's so easy.

I tried to figure out what the files were individually called, and what an .ascm file is, and where it was hidden on my computer. No luck. Sneaky devils. Long as I have the books in readable electronic form, I'm happy, but it be nice to have more control of the them.

fajrdrako: ([White Collar])

Tonight we watched White Collar: 2x05, "Unfinished Business", the best episode yet this season. Comments... )
