Woke this morning to noisy work on wallpaper in the corridor outside. With machines. What's with that?
Went to Physio - again, Leslie was encouraging, but emphasized strongly how much work I must do to get my arm flexible again. She said muscles can be recovered anytime, but flexibility can only be recovered now.
Right.
But Leslie also commended me on the way I was walking with my left arm at my side - not straight, but held more naturally than before. When I got out of the car on arrival at the hospital, I absent-mindedly picked up my purse in my left hand. It didn't hurt. I didn't even drop it. I am mighty. (Well, comparatively.)
I have discovered two things that inspire strangers to make conversation. One is a visible injury - amazing how many people recently have told me about bones they have broken, or that their fiends and relatives have broken. Including the cute guy working at the gas station yesterday, who was also funny and smart, and told us all about his once-broken shoulder that never did heal right. For reasons I can't articulate, he reminded me of Dean Winchester.
The other thing that people like to comment on is my eReader. I was using it in the hospital today - whenever I use it to read in public, I get asked about it: how does it work? what kind is it? how does it compare to paper books? - and so on. They aren't that rare, but they're still a novelty.
I was reading Lois McMaster Bujold's new Miles Vorkosigan novel,
Cryoburn. With joy.
The Paratranspo driver drove me all the way to George Street in lowertown before taking me home, because it turns out that the guy in a wheelchair who has physio the same time as I do lives at the Salvation Army hostel there. I enjoyed the ride, because I don't get downtown much these days. Had a chance to look around a little. Things change. New condos, for instance.
Then I walked to Shopper's Drug Mart (about 1 km away from home) to buy bus tickets and an SDHC card for my camera. I wanted to take a walk in the sunshine.
Made quiche again for supper - I'm a one-trick pony these days, but thrilled to be able to do it. Also Caesar salad.
