Science fiction movies...

From Livejournal's Writer's Block: What is the best science fiction movie of all time, and why?

I'm not big on sf movies, mainly because most of them seem to be war movies. Or franchises. So while I liked, say, Star Trek Nemesis it was within the context of Star Trek - where I was somewhat invested in the theme and characters (well, Picard) already.

So I'm no judge of sf movies. Name any sf movie of any renown, and chances are I never saw it, or saw it and didn't like it. I'm that one person on the planet who was bored by the original Star Wars.

I've just been approved for Paratranspo. Till September. This makes my life so much easier!

Monday...

gamergrrl came over with a pork supper from the So Go restaurant on Bank Street, where we like to have lunch. We talked about her trip to Alaska, and the congress, and her impressions of Shelia's fiancé Ian.

Then we watched two episodes of Doctor Who she hadn't seen: "The Vampires of Venice" and "Amy's Dream". I hadn 't liked "Amy's Dream" the first time, but it seemed more palatable now, despite still reminding me of some of my least favourite episodes of Star Trek.gamergrrl had an interesting comment: that Rory was much like Rhys Williams, in that he went from being an outsider boyfriend, to being hown what was really going on, then rising to the occasion and joining in on the action.

No wonder I love both characters.

Also watched Notting Hill, and enjoyed it.

I read Ludwig II, vol. 1, by You Hikari, and enjoyed it very much indeed - it set up an atmosphere of 19th century passion and intrigue that surpasses most comics, or prose historical fiction. Now I want to read the other volumes. It also got me curious to read more about Mad King Ludwig, who, it appears, was probably not mad.
