With loads of love - happy birthday to someone as clever as she is compassionate, as creative as she is competent, and one of the sweetest women I know. Hugs! I look forward to seeing you tomorrow, birthday girl.

So we get an attention-grabbing headline from the Times Online" BBC under fire as John Barrowman exposes himself live on air. Yeah, right, we wish. The headline itself adds to the farce: "on air" here means "on national radio", which adds a touch of surrealism to the story. Monty Python farce, even. Chortle.

This from a man whose autobiography was called Anything Goes. From the account of the show, they incited it - challenged him to it - knowing full well this man doesn't pass up a chance for outrageousness (or good-natured lewdness) if he can help it.

And Barrowman immediately made a public apology for going too far. Then they censored the show for its repeat online broadcast. And disconnected the webcam. Spoilsports!

They didn't want a repeat of anything like the Andrew Sachs incident, they said, where they had 27,000 calls of complaint.

With John Barrowman, they got one complaint.

[livejournal.com profile] barrowmanfans has been inspired to create a petition to get the man a centrefold in Playgirl. Sounds like the best idea I've heard all day.
