After three weeks of feeling sick and too tired to function normally, I woke up today feeling all right. Still coughing a little - but with normal energy. Don't ask about yesterday. Yesterday was a write-off. I've been looking forward to today ever since we planned a fannish day, and I was a little afraid I'd still be feeling too ill to enjoy it. Not so: I had a wonderful time.

This morning we met at 10 a.m. Von's on Bank St. for brunch - which was lovely. Me, [livejournal.com profile] maaseru, [livejournal.com profile] maaboroshi, [livejournal.com profile] chinae, [livejournal.com profile] josanpq and [livejournal.com profile] lmondegreen. I had the Pacific Benedict with smoked salmon; delicious, and with great potatoes. And for juice a cranberry/orange combination. Lovely.

After brunch, we went to [livejournal.com profile] maaseru's place for a fannish glut of "stuff we're currently watching", viewed on her beautiful big screen. Each of us brought DVDs of shows we love. We watched the following:
  • From [livejournal.com profile] maaseru - an episode of The Dog Whisperer with a dog named Boyfriend, then an episode of South Park that was based on the Dog Whisperer, and very funny.

  • From [livejournal.com profile] lmondegreen: Due South, episode "Mojo Rising". I've always liked Due South and I've always liked both Paul Gross and Callum Keith Rennie, but I've never seen one of the fourth season episodes before. I was not a faithful watcher of the show, obviously ... I think it's too much comedy for my tastes, much as I do enjoy it. Well, this episode was a delight.

  • From me: Torchwood, episode 1.12, "Captain Jack Harkness". It went over well with this crowd, especially when it came to the dancing scene and the kissing scene. Could you hear the screams from wherever you are? My friends were suitably impressed with Captain Jack Harkness and his beautiful eyes and hands - as they should be. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this again. (Anyone surprised at that? No?) Sadly, only one of the music vids I'd brought would play on [livejournal.com profile] maaseru's equipment. So it goes.

  • From [livejournal.com profile] maaboroshi: first, a yaoi series whose name I didn't write down, about two cute guys in love, very competitive about it, at odds over who'll be on top, and going to a country bath house where they play table tennis; then, Haru wo Daiteita, about two actors in gay porn, whose personal lives and professional lives keep clashing; and then Loveless, about mystical warriors and their companions/lovers. I got bored with Haru wo Daiteita - I find it hard to watch anime for long at a sitting, possibly because I don't like having to concentrate on the subtitles. Of the three, I liked Loveless best, in which the art was alternately beautiful and... not so beautiful. Hmm.

  • From [livejournal.com profile] chinae, Supernatural, episode 2x01, "In My Time of Dying". Now, I've been very, very resistant to watching Supernatural, partly because I don't like horror, and partly because I've always thought the protagonists unattractive. As I suspected would happen, once I started watching, and got into the story, I didn't find them so unattractive any more. It was good. I wasn't unduly frightened, though I'm told this is one of the tamer episodes - promises it 'wasn't a scary one' turned out to be as hollow as I expected, and I'm sure other episodes would be way past my level of tolerance. [livejournal.com profile] maaboroshi pointed out that the demons weren't any scarier than the Dementors. Right. Does she really think the Dementors aren't scary? Sheesh.

And then, as a sort of bonus afterwards, I saw a friend of mine on SPACE channel's Hypaspace, which was fun. A comic of his has been reissued. Congratulations, Mark!
