I'm not watching much TV these days, or going to movies. But I'm really excited about the current comic books coming out. So far, Marvel's Civil War storyline is living up to its advance publicity and more; I've seldom enjoyed Spider-Man stories as much as lately. I'm suddenly a fan of characters I've ignored for years (like Iron Man or Doctor Strange), Fantastic Four has had a renaissance, and there are great new titles and revivals like Young Avengers and The New Avengers and Moon Knight and X-Factor to look forward to - I'm having a wonderful time.

But the best of all is Daredevil. It has been for a long time. Brian Michael Bendis was writing it - writing it like a novel, with a twisty storyline, strong characterization, dramatic changes in the hero's life, and unexpected climaxes. Bendis is a hard act to follow.

Now Ed Brubaker is writing the comic and it's as strong as ever - how does he do that? Matt Murdock's life has been on a downward slide to hell for a long time; he lost his wife, his reputation, his legal practice, and his freedom. And now he has lost... Cut to avoid spoilers )

[livejournal.com profile] cupiscent posted a link to Pandora, the music genome project, which I happily clicked on. It tells me to type the name of an artist or song I like and it will come up with more for me.

Great idea! So I typed "Bizet" and it was flummoxed.

Huh. It's a wuss.

Typing in "Some Enchanted Evening" linked me to Bette Davis' "I've Written a Letter to Daddy", which as far as I can see has little resemblance to "Some Enchanted Evening", but is deliciously funny.

Looks like fun to play with.
P.S. Well, it did look like fun, but I can't play with it.... You have to be in the U.S. to use it. Bummer!

From the March 13, 2006 issue of The New Yorker, in a review by John Lahr of Martin McDonagh's play Lieutenant of Inishmore:
As they blast away, their targets - Mairead and Padraic - stroll past them, falling in love with each other's inner barbarian.

A Battlestar Galactica spin-off? is this for real? Scifi.com seems to think so. (I got the link from [livejournal.com profile] filkertom - thank you!)

My first thought is that it couldn't possibly be as good. But if it's the same producers... I see Ron Moore's name... it could be.

I found this Robert Coover short-short story on [livejournal.com profile] evremonde's LJ, and because I want easy access to it, I'm copying it here. She has it here.
