An amazing thing just happened. I got a phone call from my father. The first in, I don't know, six months or a year. I've phoned him numerous times but he had pretty much stopped calling me. The people who run his residence were worried about his recent memory loss, but my goodness, he remembered my birthday - he was phoning to say 'happy birthday' a few days early. Now, for my father to remember my birthday is a remarkable thing - not that he never remembers it, just that he usually remembers after the fact.

I can hardly believe he phoned. I am stunned!
