I did something just now I almost never do. I wrote a message in reply to a message that was commenting on something I'd said.... Then I simply deleted it. I didn't like what the person had said, but I wanted to answer it, because it was a direct response to something I said. I made a tactful reply: and then felt that it was just too pointless. If I said what I honestly thought, I'd probably offend someone (or many people) and have a deluge of posts arguing with me, if not flaming me. And even if I didn't - there are some things I just don't want to say.
So I deleted the post.
Now I ask myself: was that stupid, or wise? Am I avoiding confrontation (again) or simply avoiding pitfalls? Lapsing into lurking or taking the better part of valour?
Sometimes it's easy to be happy with fandom but fed up with a segment of the people and opinons in it.
On a happier note, I was thrilled with the pictures from "The Return of the King" that have turned up on
the official Lord of the Rings site . Beautiful. My faves:
(1) Aragorn facing something awful (possibly the Paths of the Dead?) and looking terrible. Of course, in my eyes, Aragorn looking "terrible" is very scrummy indeed.
(2) Aragorn with Legolas' hand resting on his neck and shoulder. Mmm.
(3) A close-up of Eomer in full armour and helmet, his mounted cavalry behind him.
(4) A very romantic picture of Aragorn with Eowyn. The text says he is comforting her. About what?
How many days till December?
