Books, books, books...
Jan. 29th, 2004 09:00 pmOne of the jobs I have embarked on this month is sorting and cataloguing my books. Some might say I have too many books; I don't think there's any such thing as 'too many books' though I do have rather a large number per square feet of small apartment. (And let's not talk about boxes of comics, right?)
On the weekend I sorted out the paperback fiction. Today it was on to harcover and trade paperback non-fiction - a joy and a delight - though it was pretty exhausting! But such fun to find favourite old books I haven't looked at in years, like Sir Steven Runciman's History of the Crusades, or the book Dorothy and Alastair Dunnett wrote on the Scottish Highlands (autographed!) or the autograph-and-sketchbook in which I have original art from some of my favourite artists, like Tim Sale (a stunning Batman), Charles Vess, Scott McCloud, Sergio Aragones, Mike Kaluta and Donna Barr. And others. What a delight to browse.
Then there is my binder of transcripts of The Professionals and Smallville, and the lovely picture book, The Making of Horatio Hornblower. (I tend to think Pellew was the making of the man, but that's another subject.)
This was my bookshelf of mostly history and graphic novels. It's probably my favourite bookshelf in the place.
