I just learned there's a webcam for Durham Cathedral. Here.
And it's been voted the most beautiful building in Britain by Radio 4 listeners - I can't argue with that! It's my favourite, despite some stiff competition.
It is a lovely building. I spent a couple of weeks at the university there, and it was lovely being woken up by the cathedral bells in the morning. That, and the noise of the river, were the only sounds that crept into my room.
My goodness, how lucky you were! I was only there a day or so, but have longed to go back ever since. Goodness knows Oxford is magnificent as well but there was something about the north that stole my heart - perhaps it's my love of Anglo-Saxon literature, I felt I was truly going in the steps of Bede or Cuthbert.
