Gotham Central #15: Soft Targets...
Jan. 25th, 2004 11:07 amI love this comic. It's a recent discovery - I came to Ed Brubaker's writing through Catwoman, and it's just as good here. The art is close to monochrome, giving the sense that everything happens at night (mostly true) and in gloom. The protagonists are Gotham City cops. The villains are the same sorts of villains Batman has to deal with, but the homicide squad isn't Batman and they can't afford to depend on him.
In this issue, they take the Joker into custody, for kidnapping and bombing. But the kidnapped woman and the bomb are still out there and something has to be done.
My favourite bits: the brief, mysterious visits of Batman, with his cryptic comments and dark glances.
