Sightseeing the fun way....
Jan. 22nd, 2004 09:24 amMonday evening I went to the Parliament Buildings with the Horatio Hornblower crowd. Derry was visiting from Australia (by way of Vancouver), and since some of our number work at the Senate and know all the security personnel there, we were able to go in on our own personal tour. We took photos of ourselves sitting in the chair where Sir John A. MacDonald sat - our first Prime Minister and the founder of the country - in his beautifully restored office. We took pictures of our stuffed critters (a spider puppet, a frog, and an odd little black thing that scurried when you pulled its string) sitting among the teacups used by Governors-General and the Queen.
Afterwards, we ate at Oregano's, and sat at the table where I'd first met this crowd. I found myself in the odd position of having to order food in an Italian restaurant when I can't eat wheat, cheese or tomatoes. So I had a salmon steak with mixed squash and it was delicious.
