I was up late writing last night. This morning, I woke up about seven, despite a desire to sleep late, and got it into my head that I wanted to go for a walk before dawn.

I was too slow: by the time I got out the door the sun was up, and snow was falling. It was the pretty, fluffy kind of snow that you'd want to see on Christmas cards - or on Christmas day, come to think of it.

Awful to walk in, though. I tried walking in the ruts where a few cars had been, but at 7.30 a.m. on a Sunday morning you don't get a lot of traffic in the Glebe. (Just as well, or I'd have been dodging cars.) I wish I had skis! After a block, I went home.

Lunch was at the Mandarin Ogilvie restaurant, where Marcelle, Sarah and I met Vicky and Marion for dim sum and we heard about their trip to London for theatre and to see the Lord of the Rings exhibit at the Science Museum. It sounds as if they had a wonderful time.

When I heard the Lord of the Rings exhibit was going to be in Boston, I wasn't sure if... when... I could get there. I mentioned its exisence to [livejournal.com profile] maboroshimaki and Marcelle and the instant response was: "Hooray, we're going to Boston!" Something to look forward to - and sooner than Malta. ([livejournal.com profile] gem225, how would you like a visit?)

I didn't partake of the dim sum. I ate rice, tea, and a few vegetables. I did look longingly at the fried squid and the sweet sesame balls. Then I went off the diet at suppertime, having a slice of cranberry pie for dessert from the 3 Tarts, the most irresistible bakery in town.

I spent the rest of the day betaing [livejournal.com profile] acampbell's story, and rewriting my own in a couple of drafts, and reading slash. Watched a little of the LOTR DVD and a special on "The Making of The Lord of the Rings" that was shown on the Space Channel on Thursday.

I also spent - or wasted - some time downloading html programmes. I've been stalling about getting the software to update my web pages - what I had before was lost when after I got my new hard drive. I shouldn't have been too difficult but I'm slow in figuring things out and there was a lot of fumbling. Why does it take me so long to figure out how to do anything on my computer? I now have AIM again (though I haven't set it up) and I got Netscape again, though again I am frustrated that they won't let me use the ID "fajrdrako" and I am still "aerdrako". It could be worse. I could be Grima Wormtongue.

Funny: early in the day [livejournal.com profile] maboroshimaki teased me for being 'eccentric'. Later on Marcelle and Sarah said, in the nicest possible way (when I said I wanted to walk in the snow before dawn "because it's fun") that I was strange. This from my dearest friends - I wonder what the people who don't know me well say?

Just a lovely relaxed fannish sort of day.

I don't know when or exactly how, but it looks as if it may be possible!
