Game of Thrones 2x09, "Blackwater"

Watched Game of Thrones episode, "Blackwater", today. Twice.

What a fine TV show that is.

And what a fine character they've made of Tyrion.

1. Seems to me that television Sansa is smarter and more sympathetic than book Sansa. In terms of what she actually does and says, it's hard to put my finger on the difference, except that we are spared all her fantasizing about a brave knight coming to save her - and her self-pity.
   
   
2. Likewise, I found Sandor Glegayne more sympathetic, and more of a personality, in the books. However: I like his presence, his tendency to glower and loom.
   
   
3. Interesting getting a whole episode in King's Landing, without nothing about the characters elsewhere. I thought that worked well: got into the meat of the story.
   
   
4. Best battle I've ever seen on TV, I think.
   
   
5. Cersei seems more intelligent than in the books. That may be the Lena Headey effect. I can see how she may be an intellectual equal to Jaime.
   
   
6. Loved Tywin's entry at the end.
   
   
7. The wildfire was very dramatic and convincing.
   
   
8. Roy Dotrice made us laugh, he was so over-the-top gleeful. Pim said it was as if he'd stepped in to King's Landing from a Monty Python skit.
   
   
9. Pod was great.
   
   
10. I wasn't sure why Cersei was paying attention to Shay. Just to build suspense?
    
    
11. I always like Varys.
    
    
12. Loved all the detailing on Tyrion's armour.
    
    
13. I'm not sure whether it came across (or even if it was meant to) that Ser Loris in Renly's armour looked like Renly's ghost come from the dead to fight in the army. This may be a point in retrospect. Or not.
    
    
14. Oh, those Tyrells. I look forward to them.
    
    
15. Loved the scene where Bronn was singing. I wasn't sure what was behind the scene with Sandor Clegayne; was that in the book? Why was Sandor picking on Bronn?
