From the The Fannish Friday Five:

1)Do you have a fandom that is a sitcom or a soap opera? What is it?

No. I dislike sitcoms and don't get much chance to watch soap operas, though I sometimes catch Coronation Street because it's on TV on Sunday mornings.

2)Do you have a book or movie fandom? What is it?

Er... many. Do comic books count as books? There's Dunnett fandom, X-Men fandom (mostly the comics but also the movies), Legion of Super-Heroes fandom, Lois McMaster Bujold fandom, and SF fandom in general, in which I have been involved for decades. And movies... Well, currently The Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean loom large among my fannish activities. These are the norm. I don't think of fandom as being attached to any particular genre or medium.

3)Do you read or write fic for this kind of fandom? Do you search for fic for this kind of fandom?

Yes, of course. All of them. That's what fandom means to me - something I read and write fic for, something that makes me interact with other people who love it via mailing lists, livejournals, parties at each others homes, or whatever.

4A)How do you pimp people into your genre fandom?

I don't. I'm not into pimping. If they ask, I talk about it. If they're interested, I share. Otherwise I try not to talk about it a lot. I find it dull when other people talk about fandoms I'm not into, and I expect they feel the same.

4B)Are you open to being pimped into a genre fandom?

I'm always open to hearing about good stuff. At a certain point, if it doesn't take, I don't like to be pushed.

5)Is one of these genres "better" fannish fodder than the other? Why?

No. Each genre has its own good qualities and fandom is what the imagination makes of it. Generally speaking, I find character-rich material is good for a fandom, but what makes a genre (or any sub-genre or source within it) "character rich" is in the eye of the beholder.
