I went for a walk with [livejournal.com profile] commodorified to Bridgehead for a change of scene, a stretch of legs, and to pick up my new glasses. This is an exciting upgrade of my visionary accessories, since for the first time ever I have multifocal lenses so I don't have to take them off and on all the time. I ordered these a week ago Saturday; I was pretty sure they'd be ready by the time I was out of the hospital, and so they were.

So I walked over to the optician's, which is about half a klick from my place. I felt quite able to walk that far, especially with [personal profile] commodorified for moral support. Yes, the glasses were ready.

And yes, they are beautiful.

They are Yabi glasses, with titanium frames in just the right hue of blue. (Dare I call it azurite?) And on the earpieces of the glasses... the best part... there is a beautiful serpent on each side.

For my friends who are ophidiophobic, I think I'll have to say they are green salamanders with their feet tucked out of sight.

I am just thrilled by these glasses, especially after wearing reasonably cheap reading glasses forever, including the drugstore kind the doctor says are bad for my eyes, and I'm constantly losing them, getting them dirty and smeared, or having them break from constantly being handled. Or dropped. Or sat on. Even the $200 kind from Costco didn't last long, and I managed to lose my best pair in a boat in Mexico, between Cozumel and Playa del Carmen.

These are so much nicer than all the others. No, I really couldn't afford them, but I don't care.

I love them enough to want to name them. Any suggestions? [personal profile] commodorified's rather brilliant suggestion was Ouroboros, with the left side being Ouro and the right side being Boros. I like the playful tone of that, and the connection to Kundalini, but I'd been thinking Plissken (for obvious reasons) or Jörmungandr, possibly because I've been reading a lot of Thor comics lately, and I like the whiff of history.

I didn't take the glasses off again after leaving the optician's. No trouble walking with them. No trouble watching TV, though from time to time I had to re-angle my head so print appearing on the screen wasn't doubling itself. I can use the computer just fine, and see across the room.

Perfect.

Re name, you can call them Badger.
Not in a bad way. A good way somehow.
