A lucky disaster....

Sometimes things work out.
My computer at work froze up this afternoon. There was something wrong with the server. I logged off, logged on again, and had the same problem. Then the server - which is only a few feet from my desk - begin to emit a shrill, high-pitched noise that was close to painful.
It lasted all afternoon.
With some rebooting, we got the server working again without freezing, though sluggish. But the noise wouldn't stop. When I had most of my work done, the General Manager, Beth, told me to go home. Our resident technician had arrived, and was working on the problem, but the noise was no more pleasant and no less loud.
You know how some things just work out sometimes? I'd been worrying all day about how I'd have to get home quickly to roast the chicken I'd bought so that we could eat supper at a reasonable time. My Smallville-fan friends came over - after all, it's a Smallville Wednesday, even if it's rerun time.
I got home early enough that the chicken was perfectly cooked (along with the cranberry sauce) and I had time to make cranberry sauce and gravy, too, as well as stir-fried vegetables.
We didn't watch Smallville, we watched The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers: the Extended Edition of which I've still seen only a fraction. We watched some of the director's commentary (not so far as interesting as I'd expected); the "behind the Cameras" section - hilarious; the Easter egg of the MTV Award speech (as funny as ever); and most of disc 1 of the movie.
Love that Aragorn. Always.
But now in my favourite scene - the meeting of Eomer and Aragorn - I found myself scanning the helmeted faces for women among the Riders of Rohan.
