What's the difference between a reboot and a relaunch?

I read more information about the DC comics which will emerge from the reboot here.

The only ones that sound interesting to me are Nightwing and Batwoman, though I'll give Batman and Robin a try because I like Damien. There's rather a lot of authors I've never heard of or don't like at all, and only two I used to like a great deal (Scott Lobdell and Fabian Nicieza), though I haven't seen anything from either of them that really excited me in the past ten years. And Paul Cornell - okay, he's good. But Stormwatch? Well... maybe. Midnighter and Apollo might be potentially cool. How long have they been with DC? The things that happen when I don't pay attention!

The art looks nice, on the whole, but I don't see anything fresh here. No female writers. Looks as if they're doing just what they threatened or promised to do - rework their comics so they are mostly of interest to male teenagers, and not to the likes of me.

I wish I knew all the characters, but, not being much of a DC reader, I don't. Let's see... Front row, left to right: Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Black Canary, Flash, John Stewart (does he have another name?), Wonder Woman (in her old costume - this must be the "before" picture), Batman, Superman.

Second row: Aquaman, Power Girl, Captain Marvel, Supergirl, Huntress, someone, Cyborg, Hawkman, Booster Gold, someone, someone, someone, someone else, and Zatanna. Looking good, Zatanna.

Third row: Animal Man, someone, someone, someone, another Green Lantern, someone on fire whom I don't know, with the Phantom Stranger in front of him. Then someone who looks like a Jack Kirby creation, and someone with glowing eyes in front of him - I'm not doing well here, am I? - Dr Solar (oops, no, wrong company), Guy Gardner, someone, someone, someone, Dr. Fate, Wonder Girl, The Question (is it still Renée Montoya?), then three people I don't know, and an owl.

Hmm. The DC characters I most know and like aren't here: John Constantine, Tim Drake, Jason Todd, Bagirl or Batwoman, Oracle, Connor Kent (unless that's him lurking at the back), and Nightwing. And who is it to the left of Animal Man? (His right, our left.)

Can anyone who knows DC better than I do help me out here?


Maybe I'm just feeling grumpy with DC because of Barbara Gordon and Supergirl.

Supergirl. I used to love her so much, when I was a ten-year-old and she was an orphan kept hidden from the world. So sweet, and with such incredible power... And such extremely bad stories.

No, she has no reason to love Earth, or her cousin Kal-El either, but I'd rather have a Supergirl who didn't realize that, or didn't care. I don't want a Supergirl with a grudge.
