Fannish Five....
Nov. 29th, 2003 03:43 pmI got this from
squashed, who has all her Christmas cards written - I am astounded and jealous!
1) What fandoms are you in that you are truly grateful for, and why?
All of them.
2) What character are you most thankful for having been introduced to? Why?
I'm not sure I understand the implication of the question - does it just mean what character do I most appreciate? Lex Luthor. Of course, I have been familiar with Lex Luthor since childhood, and he wasn't a character who interested me until Smallville and the Rosenbaum version came along.
3) Are you thankful that the fannish sub community exists? Why?
Yes, because I have such fun with these people. No reservations here: as a community, fans are the most imaginative, creative, intelligent, entertaining and tolerant people I know.
4) Is fandom your primary hobby? If not, what is?
I suppose it is, unless you count reading as a hobby. Fandom is so diverse - it subsumes a lot of things. Most of my social life is centred on fandom one way or another, and that's important to me.
5) Within your fannish life, what are you most grateful for this year?
All the great material that has come out this year: The Lord of the Rings: the Two Towers, both the theatrical release and the extended edition and the secondary material like magazines, books, MTV clips and documentaries relating to the movie: Pirates of the Caribbean and the superhumanly talented and inventive Johnny Depp; the new episodes of Horatio Hornblower (which I saw on videotape months ago); "Shattered" and other good Smallville episodes that simply make me happy to be a fan.
Perhaps I should also mention how grateful I am to have a dual-region DVD player and DVDs to play on it. It's a wonderful medium that truly is an improvement on what has come before, both technologically (in the good quality sound and picture it gives us, as well as simplicity of use) and creatively - the way DVDs have so much more on them than just the basic movies they feature. They inspire creators to give us better material, and more material. I appreciate it all.
