Day 29: Best Torchwood on Doctor Who Moment

Every single moment when Captain Jack Harkness appears on Doctor Who is precious to me - even in "Last of the Time Lords", which upset and distressed me greatly, and remains my least favourite Doctor Who episode.

I also enjoy the references to Torchwood in series 2, when we see the original manor house. And "Doomsday", set in Torchwood One in London, is probably my favourite episode of Doctor Who after series one.

But the scene I most love? Jack talking, flirting, drinking and dancing with Rose on the invisible spaceship moored at Big Ben in "The Empty Child".



I love that scene so very much. It's Jack at his best and his worse: charming, kind, entertaining, saving Rose's life and yet ruthlessly following his own agenda, entirely free of malice.

I also love his role at the end of "The Doctor Dances": devastated to see the potential damage he has caused; doing what he can to save everyone from the bomb; and when he realizes he must die to save people, he faces death with a smile, a quip, and a happy sexual memory. All the better that he is rescued by the Doctor and lives on to dance on the TARDIS.

The rest being history.

I miss that devil-may-care and smile-in-the-face-of-death aspect of Captain Jack in Torchwood, where he too often fell prey to brooding and worry.
