Changing one's life...

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. I'm not even sure how to respond to that. My first thought was that there are way more than two such books.
I did go to check the title, never having read Atlas. Now I know I wouldn't. Could never stand Rand, and really loathed the Fountain... whatsit and its annoying pretentious characters (I do know the title in Hebrew, but too tired to go look it up).
