The 30 Days of Torchwood meme:
Day 7: Favourite Alien/Villain..
Two questions - two answers in one:
Favourite Alien
Adam, in 2x05, "Adam".

I found Adam fascinating; I loved the way the theme of this story was the relationship between memory, identity, and reality. Adam made the Torchwood team believe whatever he wanted them to believe. What he did to them was despicable, but it was his nature, his survival skill. I love the way he manipulated them, and I love the way they handled it. I loved the way Jack dealt with it, and with him, and this episode has my favourite Jack/Ianto moment ever. Too bad neither of them will ever remember it.
This episode inspired two of my fanfic stories, Forgotten, and Being Together.
Favourite Villain
Bilis, in 1x12, "Captain Jack Harkness". Not so much in 1x13, "End of Days", when I didn't know what to make of him.

What was his agenda? Messing with Jack's head, I think. I don't know why. I'd love to speculate. Perhaps in another time and place, he lost a lover to Jack, and has resented it ever since? I liked the idea he could move in time by just... timeslipping, like Cable. I liked he way he was so smooth and creepy. I liked the way he appeared to know more than the Torchwood team in two eras at one.
I think Bilis had a lot of potential. Which, sadly, wasn't realized in "End of Days".
This begs the question of whether Bilis was an alien, or, in fact, who or what he might have been at all. He remains tantilizingly undefined and unexplained. Adam was undeniable a villain, but I feel a lot of sympathy for him.
