30 Days of Marvel: Events...

The 30 Days of Marvel meme:

Day #30: Your favorite Marvel Event.

1. Dark Reign - Norman Osborn takes over national security.
   
   
   
   Now, maybe I'm just saying Dark Reign because I'm still reading the many bits and pieces and it's fresh in my mind, but I enjoyed it because:
   
   1. Norman Osborn became real to me for the first time
      
   2. There was a fascinating ambiguity of characterization - with, for example, Victoria Hand
      
   3. It introduced me to Daken in a good way. So glad I didn't read Wolverine Origins first. Then I'd have hated him, too.
      
   4. It made for interesting interplay of characters and crossovers.
      
   5. It brought in all sorts of minor and assorted superheroes and villains I'd never paid attention to before, in such a way that I wanted to know all about them.
      
   6. It shook up established teams, like the Avengers.
      
   7. Mac Gurgan as Venom/Spider-Man - loved it!
      
   8. Interesting use, or inversion, of S.H.I.E.L.D.
      
   9. Loved Emma Frost's complicity, and that wonderful story, Dark Reign: The Confession.
      
   10. Interesting study of the use and abuse of authority in a democracy.
       
   11. Lots of stories dealing with moral choices of various types - Luke Cage and Jessica Jones being a good example. Was it better to do what is right, and defend one's right to freedom - or to make sure one's child is safe? Interesting questions, well handled.
       
   
   
2. Age of Apocalypse, if only to see Magneto with his hair in braids.
   
   
3. Emergence of the Fantastic Four. And you can follow this with the emergence of any of my favourite Marvel tropes: Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D., the X-Men and Marvel Mutants, and so on.
   
   
4. Daredevil, Elektra, the Hand, and various other interrelated Ninja story arcs. Stone!
   
   
5. X-Cutioner's Song. What a great story.
   
   
6. Civil War, especially Spider-Man's role. And Captain America's. I'd never been much of a Cap fan, before.
   
   
7. The fall and rise of Iron Man, through the Civil War story, and his resurrection.
   

So many great crossover events!

This brings me to the end of the 30 Days of Marvel meme. I've been enjoying it; might carry on with the second 30 Days of Marvel meme. Or not. We'll see how I feel about it tomorrow.
