Things my nutritionist said...

Had an interesting session with my nutritionist today. I had a number of questions for her, and was surprised - or pleased - by some of her answers. For instance:
- At this time of year in Canada, canned tomatoes are a good substitute for fresh ones.
- Microwaved food is irradiated food, and there have not yet been long-term studies on the effects. She wouldn't eat it, herself. She said that there was a studied in which plants watered with microwaved and cooled water died, while the ones watered with plain water survived.
- Coconut oil is good, and can be a nutritious substitute for butter or cream. Peanut, avocado, and olive oil are also good.
- As before, she recommended stevia as a sugar substitute. She said you could buy stevia in a form other than the white powder and the liquid form - it's green. I picture something like basil flakes.
- Fruit is okay for snacks. She recommended sesame-hut-honey bars, but sadly I don't like any of those things, so I'm unlikely to be eating them.
- Cabbage is a good anti-cancer food.
- She recommended flax bread or sprouted flax.
