Lord of the Rings...

Spent the day watching the extended edition of all three Lord of the Rings movies, from about 10 a.m. to about 10 p.m., as we do every January 1. And it just gets better all the time. We were mouthing dialogue along with the actors some of the time. Anticipating favourite bits (there are so many) and laughing at the dorky bits and just thoroughly enjoying ourselves.

And I managed not to eat too much, and to have no sugar at all. Day one of 2011 successfully completed. I took a break during the Battle of Helm's Deep to go to the exercise room in the basement, so I even got my exercises done.

Lovely day with good friends and a familar, beloved movie.

Can any of the Tolkien fans here tell me something I've forgotten: the name of the battle in which Elendil died and Isildur cut the ring off Sauron's finger?

Battle of Dagorlad?

It followed the Battle of Dagorlad, but wasn't actually part of it. It doesn't seem to have had a name all its own, or at least, not one that Tolkien used. I think I can call it the Battle of Orodruin - but that isn't textual, that's just extrapolation.
