Dead tired: a good day, a busy day, a day that feels full of accomplishment whether it really was or not.

The yoga class was magnificent.

Masquerade continues to be a joy, and full of humour and surprises.

I wrote my apazine for Apaplexy, "Pandas and Palindromes #113" and so will have something to take to collation on Saturday. About time, too: I missed the last zine (even though I'd written something, but I hadn't photocopied it), and I hadn't done mailing comments.

In the previous zine, there were some fascinating accounts of World Con in Toronto. Wish I could have been there - as I kept saying in all my mailing comments. Guy Gavriel Kay did a reading from the book he has coming out next year - at last! And I wish I could have heard Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman and Kim Stanley Robinson and George R.R. Martin - favourites all. I guess the next best thing is being able to hear about it all from friends.

I told members of the Ottawa Science Fiction Society that I was willing to run for a position on the executive. After twenty-some years of being in the club and avoiding this.... am I fulfilling a longstanding debt, or going soft in the head? Well, we'll see if I get nominated at the meeting at the end of the month.

I watched Carnivale with fascination. Plots are thickening, and I've no idea what to think or where it's going but I enjoy it more all the time. It's no Firefly, but it's damn good.

Carnivale

I got the name wrong, a while ago -- I was thinking of Clancy Brown, and called him Paddy Brown. If it isn't him, it's someone weirdly similar in face and form. Remember him, played the Kurgan in the original Highlander movie...?

I wish I could see Carnivale. Even if I don't watch it from the first episode. It sounds like one that would be a delight to start watching partway into the run, just so I could try to figure out what was going on.

Oh, yes, Clancy Brown is in Carnivale - he plays Brother Justin Crowe.

Of course I remember the Kurgan! (Though I didn't really like that movie, at least not in retrospect).

Believe me, you can't figure out what's going on in Carnivale even if you have seen all the episodes. It isn't that kind of show. It's meant to keep you guessing. If you came in part way it wouldn't make much difference as far as knowing what is happening - the difference is that you'd know more if you'd seen more, but you woudln't necessarily understand it better.

I'm sure it will come out on DVD at some point. It's good enough.
