American values are not just about America, but they speak to the human dignity, the God-given spark that resides in each and every person across the world. - Hillary Rodham Clinton

Seems to me that's one of the stupidest quotesc, and possibly one of the most arrogant and chauvinistic, I've read in years. Just the kind of thing that fosters anti-American feelings! (And the 'god-given' is the horror that clinches it for me...)

Question is, who was the intended audience.

For a certain kind of an (American/US) audience, this is a pretty good line to sell. Can't blame a politician for saying what their people want to hear. It makes for unpleasant shivers, yes, but I can't blame.

Lookit pretty icon I has! Unfortunately, I know a tiny bit (one fact each) about the politics of the two guys involved.

Mccallum is a tax-Tory (a couple of lines from interviews, against all those horrible evil socialists who want to steal money from honest rich/successful people and give to all those mean poor people) and a Republican. On the other hand we have Vaughn, who was very big anti-Vietnam and Democrats/Liberals. And an Anglophile, to this day. And published a "thesis on the blacklisting of Hollywood entertainers during the McCarthy anti-communist era".

I feel petty. A tory could still have reasonable opinions in other areas, and gods know there are left people who are horrible on many counts. Just... yeah. That's all I know. I'm staying out of it.

Recent decade seems to have shifted more people to the right than to the left, I'm afraid.

I'm literally afraid.

...But not because of Mccallum. He's just an actor ;)

Actually this whole thing mostly reminds me... There was a meme a long time ago wherein people would state "which fandom I would marry, which I would date casually, which fandom I had a one night stand with, which fandom I'm only friends with", etc... you know, people got creative. I'm mostly remembering a certain person's description of NCIS: "you're pretty, and you make me laugh, but honey, I will never marry a republican". That kinda covers that particular show for me, too, I guess, in many ways... And that boy fits his show on more than one count.

Which again is not to say he doesn't have beautiful opinions on important matters. I just only ever heard this side, that's all. Can't pass judgment... much.

Eh, let us talk of cute things again. Cute things are easier.
