Confessions of a Teenage Vampire....
Nov. 4th, 2003 01:29 pmWhen I was browsing the library catalogue for graphic novels the other day, I came across something I'd never heard of: Confessions of a Teenage Vampire by Terry West (text) and Steve Ellis (art). Since I like to consider myself educated about even comics I don't read or collect, I checked it out, amused by the Buffy-like theme.
It's a Scholastic Graphic Novel. Scholastic puts out graphic novels? This is news to me!
It turns out to be a quite readable story aimed at the young teens - not brilliant, no surprises, with art that is mediocre in a charming sort of way. Teenage girl misfit is fascinated by history - hey, I can relate to that in a big way, though I never, as a teen, met any vampires. This girl does meet a vampire, and ends up inheriting the vampire's estate and powers in a resolution that strongly implies there'll be more books in the series.
Huh. I approve in principle. I bet I would have loved this when I was eleven.
