As someone from California noted (during one of those "man on the street" interviews) -- it was arguably a nice chunk of imported bigotry, all the way over from Utah. I didn't feel the news media did a good job reporting this at all, almost nobody wanted to take the time to follow the money, and even once it was discovered, almost no news organizations pointed out that it was the citizens of one state interfering with the laws of the citizens of another state.
I certainly heard about that, but I think it was a case of people talking about it but being unable to do anything about it. Bigotry on that level is problematic wherever it originates. As far as I've heard, the 'interference' wasn't illegal.
