The worst movie ever for depressing me was The Fisher King. I was having a bad time anyway; it set off a crying jag a feew hours later, and then days of depression. I swore off both Robin Williams and Terry Gilliam movies then and there.
Serenity makes me sad because it could and should have been much better, and because of what happened to Wash. That was when I began to go off Joss Whedon.
In contast, a movie that makes me sad in a wonderful feel-good sort of way: The Iron Giant.
