The Earth Moved...
Jun. 23rd, 2010 01:57 pmDid you feel that? Woo! Not a big earthquake as these things go (thank goodness) but strong enough, and long-enough ongoing, that people have been walking about in the street looking perplexed and making sure their houses aren't damaged.
5.5 magnitude, apparently.
This morning, I had my first session of physiotherapy. The physiotherapist, Leslie, is very nice - in my experience, most physiotherapists are. Reassuring. There was no pain, but the motions she had me doing were unsettling. She eplained how the surgeon had repaired ligaments and moved a nerve (which is why my little finger is numb). The hardest thing about the exercises? I will need to wrap and unwrap my arm - which is done up like a mummy - with one hand to remove the splint when I do them.
I'll learn. At the moment it seems daunting. But in its way, encouraging, too. And Leslie thinks she was get me two months of paratranspo to go to the Riverside for rehab sessions, which is great news.
I know I'm lucky to have this level of care, but it's a little overwhelming, too. The exercises aren't conceptually difficult - e.g., "make a fist". Can't be done. mostly because of swelling, but at least the fingers are moving a little!
Sheila drove me home, and showed me her beautiful new vintage engagement ring that Ian gave her last night. She has picked out her wedding dress and is excited about it. How nice to be hearing about someone's good news!
