The Arm...
Jun. 22nd, 2010 11:58 pmWent to the hospital today, to get the staples and stitches out of my arm, and for the surgeon to look thoughtfully at new x-rays while making "hmmm" noises. I asked the technician what was replaced, and he said it was the distal humerus and (if I understood correctly) a supra condyle fracture. There was talk about pronating my hand - but I already forget what that means. Twisting the arm so the palm faces down, I think. No doubt the physiotherapists will reiterate the message. I have another nice light cast, but it's longer than the previous ones, half covering my hand and almost reaching my shoulder.
I asked the doctor how it was healing, and he said it was good but "not out of the woods yet". I'm not sure what that means, but I think it means, "Obey the physiotherapists."
Sheila drove me to the hospital, for which I am infinitely thankful. Because hospital appointments always take longer than one would hope, she was almost but not quite late for her big dinner tonight - taking her fiance to meet her son and family for the first time. She was wonderful, supportive, helpful company and we had a little shared cry over
