A few years ago, I totally fell in love with Megan Whalen Turner's series of novels The Thief, The Queen of Attolia and The King of Attolia.
Today I read the fourth in the series, A Conspiracy of Kings, and fell in love with her characters and writing all over again. It's the best book I've read in ages, and I read it in one sitting.
As with all her books, it's writing with deceptive simplicity, and it's full of sleight of hand. In many ways, the story parallels that of The Thief, although the hero is quite unlike Gen. And the action... well.
Attolia and Sounis feel more real than a lot of real places.
